Outdoor Activity: Family hike (although Dad will probably run the entire route twice).
Weather Conditions: Absolutely perfect with a slight chance of spectacular.
Place: Robberg Peninsula, Plettenberg Bay. The same hike that we do as a family every holiday – 9km of gorgeous scenery and a pretty path.
Time: Right now! Everybody is already waiting in the car – let’s go! Where are your shoes? And a hat? Hurry up…
Before we begin, let me assure you that someone has forgotten something; someone is still putting their socks on; and somebody else definitely said they would pack the sunblock?! But never mind that – we’re here now and we’re going to have a lovely hike.
Over the dunes and through the sand, we’re well on our way and even the sun seems to celebrate our adventure.
Down the stairs and in single file. We have walked this path as a family every holiday for as long as I can remember, and yet, it seems to be more beautiful every time.
At the point of the peninsula’s, seagulls’ poops stains the rocks white, and their feathers trace streaks across the sky.
The rock pools mirror a perfect sky and I can see seven thousand shades of blue shimmering in the sea.
The glimmering pools promise colours, corals and enchanted curiosities.
And they never disappoint – behold the star that fell in love with the sea.
The sun follows us along the rocky path. On one side, the slops are dressed in glorious greens, and on the other, the waves continue to kiss the shore.
And so it goes, that beside the blanket of sparkling sea, we wander as a family.
And when we find the perfect pool, we finally remember that we forgot our costumes. Never mind that, we’ll have splendid swims anyway. Besides, aren’t we waterproof?
So ends a magnificent day beneath the sun and beside the sea. (And we didn’t even need the sunblock!)
